PINE CREEK TRAIL


"This trail provides access to the backbone of the Strawberry Mountains within Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. Hores back riders and hikers can enjoy this trail set amongst Ponderosa Pines in the wilderness. Hikers and horse back riders can each enjoy a day hike or connect to other trails in the wilderness for longer multiday hikes and rides. The trail was burned over in 2015, visitors should be prepared for downed trees and other hazards. This dirt surface trail has an 800 foot elevation gain. "-USDA

Access: From Prairie City, OR., travel west approximately 6 miles on US Highway 26 to the junction with County Road 54. Follow County Road 54, which becomes Forest Service Road 5401. Follow Forest Service Road 5401 approximatley 2 miles to the junction of Forest Service Road 811 all the way to the Pine Creek Trailhead.

More Information: Visitors to the area can enjoy multiday backpacking trips. Starting at the Pine Creek Trailhead, visitors can follow the Pine Creek Trail to connect to other trails for a multitude of options. Hikers can travel approximately 4 miles to the junction with the Canyon Mountain Trail #218 allowing for further trail connections heading west and longer hikes. Hikers can stay on the Pine Creek trail heading east to reach the Road End Trailhead. Continue heading east to connect to the High Lake Trailhead which is the starting point for the Skyline Trail #385 and make a loop seeing a number of various lakes in the wilderness including High Lake, Slide Lake then Strawberry Lake, Strawberry Falls and Little Strawberry Lake before connecting to the Strawberry Basin Trail #375 tying into the Onion Creek Trail #368 which will connect back to Pine Creek Trail #201 at Roads End Trailhead. These trails are also used by horse back riders, please be prepared to share the trail. Remember that if you pack it in please pack it out.
